I've been going here since it opened, almost 20 years! The quality has not dipped, as most restaurants have or closed. Pizzaiolo has kept its standards and I'm thankful for it as there aren't many that fit this category of dining. Never disappoints, always a pleasure.
Great food and great options even if you aren't a fan of pizza! Recommend sitting outside even in the cool evenings they have plenty of heaters that not only keep you warm but add to the ambience! Staff is friendly and knowledgeable!
Pizzaiolo has been my favorite restaurant in the Temescal Rockridge area for many years. There is a reason why they are still so popular: it's the food. It's the vibe (always great music). It's the wait staff. Whether you are sitting inside or on the lovely back patio, it is California / Italian-inspired dining at its best. The salads are amazing. Tonight the tuna crudo was like the most sublime sashimi only better because it was giant slabs of tuna. Always love the pizzas. Even the bread to start with the salty butter is to die for. Be sure to order olives. The drinks are fantastic, with house made tonics. You will not find any restaurant with more carefully sourced, local ingredients than Pizzaiolo.
Went on a Tuesday early evening and enjoyed the experience. We waited about 8 min for a table. Our margarita pizza took awhile to get, but when it came out it is very much Italian style. Very thin crust, not greasy at all and with the right amount of cheese. The unexpected surprise was ordering the asparagus with beets from the oven. It came out first and served as the perfect appetizer. Highly recommend. Tuesdays have half off certain bottles but we stuck with the house red which was solid. Great spot for families, meeting with friends for a casual dinner.
Absolutely love this neighborhood gem, my brother told me that this establishment has been around for 17 years!! We got there right when it opened and there were people already seated and people waiting for the rest of their party to arrive. In my opinion, that's a good sign you're at a great restaurant. We opted to sit at the bar and were served by Molly and Chris (they are delightful!). I had a Lil Diddy which was refreshing and easy to drink and would recommend for anyone who is a social drinker since it's tasty and light. For food, we had sesame crusted bread and butter which was oddly cold and it made it hard to spread the butter. The salad was delicious and had an herb sauce/dressing in the base and tangy deliciousness in the form of citrus and red onions. The meatballs were delicious but the sauce it was accompanied with tasted like watery Campbell's tomato soup..I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be that way since the bread soaked it up but my preferred tomato sauce has a heftier texture so I likely wouldn't order it again. The fried chicken was INCREDIBLE. I was surprised when I cut into it and a stream of hot steam rose from the meat, it was so well cooked and I actually enjoyed the turnips (I hate turnips for reference). Dessert was okay but I might have been too full to thoroughly enjoy it. Loved the look of the restaurant and they had interesting art on the wall, but also had a random disco ball in the middle lol I bet they know how to party!
Quick service, romantic ambiance, and amazing pizza! Favorite pizza spot in Oakland. If you live in Temescal, highly recommend! My boyfriend and I ordered the Spicy Pepperoni and fire honey pizza! Prefect blend of heat and sweet! The sauce was amazing and lightly spread on the crust. Crust was fire roasted, BOP Wine and cocktails are expensive; the spicy margarita was NOT spicy and not good. Maybe try the wine! They have half off bottle for Happy Hour.
I came the other night with a friend for snacks and drinks and they did not disappoint. We sat outside in the back. It was very warm inside and their patio is away from the street, lots of seating, twinkle lights and heat lamps for the evening and they always have good music playing (lots of neo soul/r&b). We ordered the buratta, the olives and some rosè. That buratta was DELICIOUS!! I want to eat it everyday and the olives has some citrus in the oil that made them especially good too. After the wine I went for an old fashioned and it was very well made. Last but not least, our server. I am ashamed that I do not remember his name but he was lovely, as everyone I have interacted with has been on my few visits. Looking forward to the next time.
